
BTG: BRIDGING THE GAP
Bridging the Gap is an immersive 6-week summer program designed to help incoming freshmen be successful at Burton High School. BTG offers opportunities for students to get connected to the academic and cultural components at Burton.Through a social justice and public health lens, Bridging The Gap will support students as they explore their interests and overcome their personal challenges that may hinder their continued growth and development. The goal of BTG is to empower youth to explore their own healing and build community with their peers and school community. But Most importantly, Bridging the Gap aims to uplift youth to live in their purpose unapologetically.

Eligibility: Bridging The Gap is free and open to all incoming 9th graders attending Burton High School in Fall 2022.
Compensation: All Bridging the Gap participants will receive an $800 stipend upon completion of the program.

ACE: ACADEMY OF COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT
The Academy of Community Empowerment is a 6-week immersive program centered around social justice, youth-led community advocacy and empowerment, and education for liberation. As ACE Interns, young people will be divided into two cohorts: one for new interns, and the other for returning interns.
ACE 1: New interns will participate in ACE 1, where they will engage in daily workshops and collaborate on weekly projects to build a foundational knowledge centered around youth leadership, community empowerment, and cultivating healthy relationships. Returning students will support Program Coordinators with leading workshops and collaborative activities, as well as receiving site assignments to summer programs at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, KIPP Bayview Elementary, Bridging the Gap, Summer Learning Hub @ Burton, and various programs through the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA.
ACE 2: Through their site assignments, ACE 2 interns will provide programmatic support and direct mentorship to youth in their communities. This summer, ACE will continue to operate as a hybrid program. Monday and Tuesday, ACE 1 students will engage in virtual workshops via Zoom while ACE 2 students will be working at their respective site assignments. Wednesday through Friday, all ACE participants will convene at Burton High School to collaborate on group projects, engage in various trainings/workshops, and embark on community field trips. All in-person activities will comply with SFUSD and YMCA of San Francisco’s COVID-19 safety protocols.

Eligibility: ACE is free and open to all rising 10th-12th graders at Burton High School. Decisions are NOT made through a first come, first served basis. All applications are reviewed and process equitably.
Compensation: All ACE Interns will receive a $1600 stipend upon completion of the program.

2. Complete the Opportunities For All Application (under the section "Referral Information," please put "ACE @ Burton High School") — due May 15th
3. Acceptance Decisions via Email by May 18th
4. Student Acceptance Confirmation by May 20th
JLP: JUNIOR PROGRAM LEADERS
The Junior Program Leaders is a 7-week long summer program targeting recent Burton Alum who have shown interest in personal growth. Students will experience the process of creating a program and gain confidence by defining their personal brand. In addition, students will engage in job readiness workshops that will equip them with new skills and certifications, strengthening their resumes in preparation for employment. The main goal of the JPL program is to empower students to become leaders within their communities.
