“RUBY BRIDGES: WHY POC CAN GO TO SCHOOL”
by Faith, Lianne, Annie, Sharon, and Faapuloua
It didn’t take us long to figure out what we would be talking about because we had brainstormed beforehand. Everybody was very flexible with our ideas. We wanted to keep a simple idea but display a good amount of information. We’ll be talking about the History, Who she Inspired, Events that followed, How society changed, and How to apply this to the youth today. Keep in mind one of our group members isn’t here today, but has recorded her part in the project. Fun Fact: Ruby Bridges is still alive till this day?! At the young age of 65 years old! Ruby displays the characteristics of courage, respect, and patience. She was always super hardworking which is why there’s been a statue of her in the courtyard of the elementary school since 2014. A quote from Ruby Bridges is “Don’t follow the path. Go where there is no path and begin the trail. When you start a new trail equipped with courage, strength, and conviction, the only thing that can stop you is you!” Simply, this means to just find your own special way to do what you love instead of following what others want us to do.

“This is America” by Childish Gambino
This song lyrics legit states FACTS because “This is America”. It’s recently been used while recording during protests to show what’s going on today in real time for the #BLM Movement. This song portrays the wrongs that has been done in America, like slavery, black stereotypes, and cruelty. It's meaningful because this song supports the idea of black lives matter and the scary outlook on it. This song inspires many people to be aware of the danger of how people of color were being treated. It also encourages people to stand up for what is right. This song is addressing the issue of gun violence in America, a high rate of mass shootings, and long standing racism and discrimination. This song is great to listen to because it embodies how Americans have to tolerate numerous forms of oppression. This song spreads awareness to those who choose not to see it or ignore the ISMs.
